SIVAJI GANESAN  - LEGEND IN ACTING

As a suspecting husband in Nichaya thamboolam

In Nitchayathambulam, everything goes till Sivaji starts suspecting his wife Jammuna following the character assassination indulged in by his friend M.N. Nambiar. “Nee ipadi mosam pannuvennu naan ethirparkalai”, Sivaji moans at Jammuna for the alleged betrayal. His face becomes pale and expresses his lurking suspicion on her every move reflects Sivaji’s acting stamp. More so, the song “Pavadai thavaniyil partha uruvama, poovadai veesivara pootha paruvama, paaladai ponra mukam vadiyatheno”, captures Sivaji in a joyous mood in vesti and half shirt, displaying his bubbling enthusiasm, especially in the middle of the song “vaavendru kooramal varuvadilaya, thavendru kooramal tharuvadilaya” with Jamuna in the early stages of their marriage. When he realizes the truth in the climax scene, he pillories Nambiar with “enda ippadi senje, naan onakku ennada throkam senjen”. Sivaji excels in that scene with his face seething with anger and his hands with measured balance torments the villain. The scene depicts that the hero could not tolerate the betrayal, and this was amply demonstrated by Simmakuralon.

Triple role as a thief, scientist and a innocent lover in Bale Paandiya

Sivaji also excelled in Comedy. It is well-nigh impossible to forget his tantrums in ‘Bale Pandiya’, ‘Galatta Kalyanam’ ‘Sabash Meena’ and ‘Kalyanam Panniyum Bramachari’. In Bale Pandiya, he asks the villain Radha innocently: “evvaluvu naal soaru poottingee, ethuku eppha kola pakkarenga sir”. He did three roles, hero, rowdy and the scientist in that film. When the hero was imprisoned, mistaking him for the murder committed by the anti-social Sivaji, he curses his fate with a lovely song, lyrics by Kannadasan and sung by T.M. Soundarrajan “Yaarai  enge vaipathu enru yarrukum theriyale, ada gandagasaikukum kuyilkalukkum vedam puriyale”. Kannadasan through that song subtly reminds the listeners about the unfortunate defeat of E.V.K. Sampath in the previous assembly election in Tamil Nadu at the hands of a novice. When the Scientist Shankar points out his accusing finger towards his wife Sandya for all the ill-wills: “ellathukkum karanam eva than. She is the root-cause of the problem”, the audience in the theatre bursts into laughter with thundering applause.
