SIVAJI GANESAN - LEGEND IN ACTING

Playing triple roles in Deiva Magan

In Deiva Magan, Sivaji did three roles, the hero, ugly looking father and his elder brother. When the father and the elder son meets, the son asks him: “ennai kurubi endru thooki yerindu vittoorgal, anal ethaniye ungal petrorgal ungalluku seithurundal, yojithu parungal”. Panathaikatti thayavu seithu ematratheergal.” When he insists on the doctor Sunder Rajan to name his father, the doctor obliges, after he virtually threatens to eliminate him, if he does not reveal his name. The moment Sivaji hears it, he dances around with full of tears rolling down his cheeks and emotional unrest to the core, “theivame, theivame, thedinen vandadu.” The song sung by TMS and lyrics by Kannadasan has created such a viable impact that a large number of film-goers watched the movie time without number. More so, when the ugly-looking Sivaji cajoles his father to pay the money desired by his younger son, who stands before him by baiting his nail with a stunning style “Dad enakku koncham panam venum”.

As a patriotic citizen in Sivanda Mann

In ‘Sivanda Mann’, Diwan M.N. Nambiar’s dictatorial rule motivates him to expose his autocratic attitude and remove him from the throne. He forms a group to protect the people from tyranny and to champion for the causes of people, aided by the heroine Kanchana and the revolutionary leader Mutthuraman. Sivaji also realizes that his father Ranga Rao is working under Nambiar. Even at the cost of sacrificing his father’s life, he is trying  to eliminate the dangerous Diwan by keeping dangerous arms and ammunitions on the railway line with “nattu nalanukkaga en thandai yuir ponalum paravaillai.” When other revolutionary leaders suspect Kanchana’s involvement in saving his father, he does not hesitate to shoot her, owing to his sheer patriotism, but others prevent him from committing the unfortunate inevitable. Sivaji also made a mark in the Hindi re-make of the film ‘Dharti’ with Rajendra Kumar and Waheeda Rehman in the lead. He did the role of Mutthuraman in Tamil. Sivaji created  a viable impact in the revolutionary role with his acid dialogues and powerful expression, especially in a scene where he displays his chest for the Diwan Ajit to shoot him prior to his death. A large number of people, after watching the film in North India said that Sivaji outclassed the hero Rajendra Kumar, though his role was a limited one.
