SIVAJI GANESAN - LEGEND IN ACTING

Playing triple roles in Enga Oor Raja

In ‘Enga Oor Raja” Sivaji did dual role. The father and the son are taking oath that they will recover their lost palace, come what may. When both the sons younger Sivaji and Nagesh leave the residence, the crest-fallen Sivaji hallowers: “Idukka naan ungala valatten. Enakku yaarume illane ninacheengale” and then begins the song by rolling his moustatche: “Yaarai naambi naan porenden, pongada ponga, en kaalam vellum, vendra pinne vangada vanga”. The lyrics and song of Kannadasan-TMS combination matched Sivaji’s acrobatic movement in the hall.  Sivaji shows how much suffering he had to undergo to collect the required money to be paid to the palace owner before recovering his house with all sorts of expressions and making the people understand his requirements with his powerful eyes more than the dialogues. Finally, when he gets disappointed that the money was already paid, he looks at the people nearer to him with a parried look and asks: “ella panamum kuduthatcha, ellam mudinchupoccha”, to which the younger Sivaji pacifies him with “yaaru kudutta enappa, onga latchiyam niraveriyacchu”.

As a rich business man who loses his lover in Uyarndha Manithan

In Uyarnda Manithan, Sivaji expresses his shock in a stupendous manner when he looks at his father setting fire to the hut of his heroine Vannisri, living in a slum. The character Raju asks his father with a disbelief: “Appa enna kariyam senchuteenga”. When his friend and doctor Gopal(Ashokan) threatens him after consuming heavy alcohol: “solliduven, solliduven”, Raju with a bated breath listens to him with anxiety, as he realizes that Ashokan will expose the truth. But, Raju heaves a sigh of relief when Dr Gopal collapses and dies. Sivaji displayed with rare alacrity the momentary expression with his varied look and expression to the core. The audience heart, too, dies  skips a beat along with Sivaji in that scene. When Sivakumar expressed his desire to marry Bharathi: “Naan avala kalyanam pannika asaipadaren”, Sivaji snubs him: “Poda ponnu kadayathu”. Sivakumar later realizes his mistake and ask for the girl in a proper manner by carrying fruits and beetle-leaves in a plate. Later on, he indulges in nostalgia with Sundar Rajan in “Anda naal, naabagam, nenjile vanthathe, entha naal andru pool enbamai illaye, athu en en nanbane.” The character Raju displays laughter, anger, disgust and frustration with his immaculate expression and exact use of glycerine in a fine-tuned manner. This was his 125th film and was produced by AVM. Incidentally, he started his launching paid in films with the AVM banner ‘Parasakthi’.
